Join Luisa, a dedicated handstand and circus coach, for a technique-focused class designed to build precision, control, and strength. Luisa brings a disciplined approach inspired by his own training as a straps performer and professional handbalancer, offering drills that refine form, improve alignment, and push your handstand skills to the next level—whether you’re a beginner or training toward performance-level proficiency.
tuesday / mobility and coordination with denise / 20
This class is about moving wisely. Denise blends mindful mobility work, occasional yin yoga, and a unique approach she calls “stretching in” rather than stretching out. You’ll explore your natural range of motion, build coordination, and learn to inhabit shapes with greater ease, clarity, and self-trust.
wednesday / handstand training with denise / 20
Denise approaches handstands as a lifelong practice. With over four decades of yoga experience and a deep respect for breath and inner stillness, she guides you through accessible, meditative progressions designed for comfort and longevity. Her sessions are especially supportive for practitioners of all ages and help you build a sustainable and soulful handstand practice.
THURSDAY / functional STRENGTH training with LUISA / 20
This class builds the kind of strength handstands actually require. Led by Coach Luisa, you’ll train with intention, developing body awareness, joint stability, and power through functional strength work. Expect smart progressions and movement patterns designed to support balance, control, and resilience in your handstand practice.
Meet YOur Coaches
Luisa Macedo
Luisa Macedo is a handstand, strength, and flexibility coach based in New York City. Her passion for movement began over a decade ago with pole dance and strength training, eventually leading her to discover a deep love for hand balancing. Originally from Brazil, Luisa is a registered dietitian with a postgraduate degree in Sports Nutrition. She brings a thoughtful, well-rounded approach to her coaching—believing in training smart, fueling the body well, and enjoying the process. Whether you're a beginner or more experienced, Luisa offers guidance, care, and encouragement to support every step of your journey.
Denise Payne
Master Yoga Teacher, Denise Payne, has over 40 years of yoga experience. On the mat and teaching large groups worldwide for decades. Her handstand journey has been ongoing for over 20 years. She’s had the gift of relearning them after a serious back injury 5 years ago, and they’re better than ever. Her approach is through the physical and emotional aspects, coordination, the dynamics of movement, and the meditative qualities of a handstand. Her specialty is in building student's confidence, and she believes in the healing power of handstands for every level. When she's not in a handstand, you can find her somewhere out and about with her dog, Gordon.
